How are you at forming and maintaining relationships?
For several years now I have been acutely aware that I missed a great deal as I grew up. So many of the men that I enjoy learning from are men whose fathers played a critical role in their lives. I so often hear (and I am sure you do as well) of the impact good fathers have had on their children. I didn’t have a father. I didn’t have a heritage passed on to me. I didn’t have anyone teach me the basics for getting along in life—such as how to shave, how to raise kids, or how to love. I grew up hearing about ...
Everyone loves a great story. I have often wished was a story-teller, but for some reason I am just not able to ‘spin a yarn.’ Jesus, on the other hand, was the greatest story-teller of all time. These are called parables in the Bible. He used these stories to teach great spiritual truths.
On parable is found in Luke 19:11-27. Jesus had just passed through Jericho on His way to Jerusalem. There He meets Zacchaeus, a tax collector. Jesus ends up going to the house of Zacchaeus for the evening meal. It is around the dinner table Jesus tells this story.
This weeks devotional is by Katie Moon. Weekly prayer meetings at TFL will begin Tuesday the 16th, at 6pm.
Truth Fellowship Live is undoubtedly a work of God. We would not make up this local church if God had not planned it, prepared our hearts for it, nor moved in profound ways (both exciting and difficult) to bring it to be. As time moves forward, and we continue on in our efforts to be the church God has called us to be, God has increasingly impressed on my heart the need for a higher level of prayer to be happening for our church and in our church. During our ...
I have been teaching a class at Northern Plains Biblical Seminary called Evangelism That Works. The course is based on the teaching of Dr. Larry Moyer of EvanTell and Dallas Theological Seminary. I greatly appreciate Dr. Moyer’s approach to evangelism and his ease in teaching the course. Even though the class is small, we are having a great time discussing the various elements involved in sharing one’s faith.
This is the second time I have taught through the Academic Seminar developed by EvanTell and I am still discovering the importance of knowing how to clearly ...
I don’t know about you, but I have seen many people trust in Christ who never quite seem to move on in their Christian walk. They accept Jesus for their salvation and then later they show now evidence that they even know Him. There seems to be a spiritual high and then they fall back into the normal routine of life. What happened? Why do some move forward and others do not? Why do some seem to have a vital relationship with God only to drift away over time?
We can begin to examine this question by looking at Gal 5:19-21. It says:
Now the works of the flesh are ...
I will always remember the fall of 1971. That is the fall I first trusted in Christ. I found I could not get enough of God at that time. I was constantly reading my Bible and memorizing Scripture. What a great time it was. I learned so much those first few months.
This was time for me to learn just how much God loved me. God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Rom 5:8). I learned the Bible says all people are separated from God through disobedience, which the Bible terms sin. I was guilty before God because ...
Everybody at some point in their life faces great disappointment. We pray in the middle of these times of great disappointment, but even that disappoints because so many times we do not get the resolution we want. Often this disappointment leads to grumbling and complaining. This is total disappointment. We all face it.
We can learn much from the Jews. They had spent some 400 years in Egypt. Suddenly, God appointed Moses to bring them out of Egypt to their promised land. They saw God work through an incredible miracle. With their backs to Red Sea, they ...
Genesis is the book of beginnings. Specifically, the book is about the beginning of the human race. In Genesis we learn
God alone is the creator of the universe
God created man to be in relationship with Him
Man broke that relationship by disobeying the command of God
We then see that God is a God of judgment
God made provided a means to repair that relationship
God defined some rules for Adam and Eve. They broke those rules and sinned against God. The result was separation from God, i.e. spiritual death. But they also received physical death as a ...
People have a propensity to believe many strange things. My uncle-in-law believed that professional wrestling (or “rasslin’” as he called it) was the real deal. I was a high school wrestler and did a bit of it college, so I knew the difference. But there was no convincing him.
Then I had an aunt who believed that if you got your hair cut on the full moon, it would grow faster. Through the years I have tried to pay some attention to this one, but I have never seen it to be true. In fact, this past week I asked my hair stylist about it and she didn’t give it much ...
We have four gospels in the Bible for a purpose. Each contains its own message to fulfill the purpose for which it was written. Matthew and John were both concerned with how Jesus’ death fulfilled the Old Testament Scriptures. Luke, on the other hand, wrote to show that even in death Jesus was the forgiving Messiah. Jesus forgave those who sought Him up to His final minutes on the cross. Luke 23:39-43 says,
Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us." But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do ...
